As AI-created music becomes more common across streaming platforms, YouTube Music is introducing a new AI identification label within its music player.
Tracks that are “created primarily using generative AI” will soon display a label on the Now Playing screen. This covers music that involves “using a generative model to create the composition and vocals.” The aim is to “make it as easy as possible for viewers and listeners to have the right information and clarity when it comes to the music they listen to.”
The label will appear underneath the track title, alongside the artist/channel name. Tapping the “AI” badge and its information icon will open a bottom sheet titled “How this was made.”
YouTube Music describes the label as “Made with AI: This audio was altered or fully generated using AI” and provides a link for additional information.
To recognize AI-produced music, YouTube is relying on its own detection systems while also “teaming up with music partners” to identify tracks created using AI.
The feature begins rolling out today. YouTube plans to introduce similar AI labels for music on its main YouTube app in the future.
